Prime Minister, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday directed Karachi Electricity Supply Company (KESC) to make all-out efforts to improve the supply of power to the citizens of Karachi. Chairing a special meeting on labour-related issues of the KESC at the PM House here, the Prime Minister also instructed constituting a committee comprising representatives of key stakeholders to find solutions to such problems in a minimum possible time.
He stressed upon federal and provincial governments to ensure complete protection to KESC installations, offices and personnel for smooth supply of electricity to the citizens. Gilani said government''s privatisation policy is geared towards improved service delivery on cost-effective basis. This approach, he said, would extend appropriate opportunities to the private sector in improving their business and commercial benchmarks as well as customer''s satisfaction. The government would also continue to support public-private partnership in all sectors to improve quality of goods and services.
Earlier, Naveed Qamar, Minister for Water and Power briefed the meeting on the current electricity supply situation in Karachi and labour-related problems of KESC. Farooq Sattar, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, in his remarks, stressed early resolution of electricity supply situation, since it has started affecting the commercial and industrial sector. Dr Hafeez A. Sheikh, Minister for Finance, asked for resolving KESC issues at the earliest, keeping in view the overall business environment throughout the country.
Rehman Malik, Minister for Interior while explaining the law and order situation arising out of KESC affairs, proposed to take all stakeholders including political forces on board for early settlement of the issues. The meeting was also attended by Chairman Nepra, Secretary Water and Power, Chief Secretary Sindh and senior officials.
