India can lose Asia Cup due to Pakistan

India's reluctance to play alongside Pakistan can cost the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) the upcoming Asia Cup 2018.

The Asia Cup 2018 is scheduled to take place in India in September next year, but the worsening ties with neighboring Pakistan can take its toll on the tournament.

If India does not allow hosting the Pakistan cricket team for the tournament, the country would need to inform the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for an alternate host country, it was learnt.

"It's not clear whether the Government of India will allow the Pakistan team to travel to India for the tournament. If not, then the BCCI needs to inform the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) of the same so that an alternative host country can be finalized," according to the minutes of a meeting of the BCCI’s Committee of Administrators (CoA), quoted Cricbuzz.

Earlier, the Indian government didn’t host the Pakistan's Under-19 team, which cost them the tournament, as well.

"If we didn't get the permission to host the Pakistan's Under-19 team from the centre, it looks highly unlikely that we'll get to do so in case of their senior team,” said a BCCI official, quoted Times of India.
