Accountability court grants Sharif's application to suspend today's hearing

Accountability court adjourned the corruption hearing on Tuesday against deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar to December 4.

Earlier, Sharif family had arrived at the court for the hearing amid heavy protocol.

During the hearing, Sharif had asked to suspend the court proceedings as Islamabad High Court (IHC) had not passed its verdict regarding petition pertaining to the clubbing of references. He sought to suspend the proceedings till the IHC announced its judgement.

His request was objected by NAB prosecutor, Sardar Muzzafar. The prosecutor stated that on behalf of National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) witnesses had come and should be allowed to testify. He pointed out that one of the witnesses had recorded half of his statement at the previous hearing and should be allowed to complete it today.

The court however, granted Sharif's application after which the Sharifs' left for Punjab House.

Judge Mohammad Bashir was also informed that Sharif's counsel, Khawaja Harris,could not appear before the court as he had other engagements, local media reported.
