Yury Shishlov, who worked as a coach and sporting director at several Russian clubs, died Thursday in a Moscow hospital following a fatal assault, local media reported. Reports said that the 65-year-old Shishlov, who was working as a selector and assistant coach at lower league side Vladivostok, was found badly wounded not far from his Moscow apartment.
Shishlov was rushed to the closest hospital but medics failed to save his life. Local police have opened an investigation into the case but have so far refrained from making comments. Reports said that Shishlov, who worked in the football clubs of Ramenskoye, Kamyshin, Orel, Elista, Togliatti, Vladivostok, Vladikavkaz, Yaroslavl and many others, had recently testified in court against the former general manager of Yaroslavl football club, Vladimir Shepel. The press have speculated that Shishlov's murder could be a revenge killing for him giving evidence, which resulted in a five-year sentence for Shepel.
