Punjab police have succeeded in bringing back Tehsil Naib Nazim Pasrur Waheed Murad from Tehran who had kept a labourer in his private torture cell for 11 days and tortured him to death. This was revealed in a press release of the DGPR, received here Thursday.
Waheed Murad had managed to escape from the country after killing a newly-convert Muslim labourer of Mauza Ramkay of Pasrur Muhammad Waris. Moreover, over 50 cases including a case under section 302 had been registered against Murad but he always managed to escape the clutches of law due to his influence. A judge was also among those who exerted pressure on police and administration to save the accused.
Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, who was in London at that time, on receiving the news had directed Inspector General Police Punjab to take stern action against the accused and immediately, after his return, also went to the residence of the deceased labourer in Pasrur.
Declaring the attitude of police on the issue as criminal connivance, the Chief Minister ordered suspension of the concerned DSP and SHO and stern action against them. Both the police officers were on bail. The Chief Minister had also directed the Punjab IGP to arrest the culprit within one week.
Shahbaz had even said that if the accused, who was highly influential, was allowed to escape from the country despite his name on the Exit Control List, he would consider Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik responsible for his escape. According to sources, the accused reached Iran from Karachi by a motor launch where he was staying with a relative in Tehran.
Moreover, police has apprehended some relatives of the accused along with his two accomplices from Toba Tek Singh who were on their way to Karachi to board a motor launch for Tehran. Punjab Chief Minister, while addressing a high level meeting, lauded the performance of police and officers concerned for bringing back the criminal from Iran who was involved in cases of murder, dacoity and fraud. He said that such criminals should not find refuge anywhere in the world.
