Sindh Minister for Home and Forests, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza has directed the Provincial Police Officer (PPO) Sindh and Home Secretary to put up working paper for the establishment of a sophisticated and advanced modern forensic laboratory having the facility of DNA testing.
He issued these directives while reviewing a report regarding the facilities at the forensic laboratory established in the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Sindh Police. The report envisaged CID's Digital Computer Forensic Laboratory and Technical Wing properly equipped to perform prescribed tasks for the analysis of electronic devices like hard disks, cell phones, SIM cards, memory cards, floppy disks, and PDAs recorded by the investigating officers on crime scenes.
The facilities would also help investigate cases and assist in major cases of terrorism through 'call data analysis', prepared sketches, CNIC details and vehicle details. The laboratory would also have the ability to recover lost and deleted files, recover print spooling files, deleted internet history, search e-mail addresses, find any text in the file content, recover data from damaged devices or media, recover crack or circumvent passwords, forensic imaging of devices or media, recover digital pictures or video files, reconstruct email or chat conversations, prove resource use/misuse and document internet usage and behaviours.
The Home Minister appreciated the efforts of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Sultan Salahuddin Babar Khattak in establishing a state of the art digital computer forensic laboratory and technical wing with Sindh Police.
"For the recovery of incriminating evidence from equipment seized from accused, it is imperative to issue instructions to all investigating agencies of Sindh Police. If they come across electronic devices during their investigations, they should promptly seize and send the recovered equipment to the CID headquarter for forensic examination", Mirza observed.-PR
