ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Cambodia would enhance the bilateral ties to further strengthen the parliamentary linkages and increase the existing low trade volume between the two countries to its optimal potential.

This was deliberated in a meeting of Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani with Prime Minister, Hun Sen, of the Kingdom of Cambodia during his visit for the 1st Executive Council Meeting of the Asia Parliamentary Assembly, said a press release received here.

Chairman Raza Rabbani thanked the Prime Minister, his government and people of Cambodia for the warm hospitality extended to the Pakistan delegation.

Under his able leadership, there was impressive real estate development in Phnom Penh since his last visit in 2015.

Chairman Senate stated that Pakistan-Cambodia had traditionally enjoyed long friendly relations.

It was heartening to know that Cambodia was availing the capacity building courses in diplomacy and professional disciplines offered by the Government of Pakistan.

Pakistan was highly grateful to Cambodia for its unwavering to Pakistan's candidature of the ASEAN full dialogue partnership.

It was equally important for two countries to enhance economic and trade relations.

Chairman Senate reiterated that the Government of Pakistan was looking forward to the visit of the Prime Minister Hun Sen to Pakistan on a convenient date. He would also welcome him in the Senate of Pakistan.

While welcoming the Chairman Senate and his delegation, Prime Minister Hun Sen stated that it was an honour for Cambodia that Chairman Senate was paying his 3rd visit to Cambodia for the APA activity. His visits had greatly contributed to the strengthening of our bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Hun Sen recalled that Pakistan-Cambodia were celebrating the 65th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations this year.

Pakistan was one of the countries to recognize Cambodia even before its independence. It was important for the two countries to increase its low-level trade to its optimum.
