Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has approved seven new clubs for Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) League 2009, which will explode into action with four matches at Lahore, Hyderabad and Islamabad on Wednesday (today). The Champions of departmental and club event will earn slot in 2010's Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL), replacing two relegated team who finished 13th and 14th berth in PPFL 2009.
The Departmental leg will be comprised of eight team with 1979 NFCC Champion are being bracketed with Pak Steel, SSGC and PPWD in tough Group-A, while Police, PTV and HEC are in Group-B. Quaid-i-Azam Sports Complex at Pakistan Steel Township, Karachi and Punjab University Ground, Old Campus, Lake Road, Chauburji, Lahore will host the nine matches.
The qualifying phase of Club leg will be comprised of seven newcomers. Two of them, Kasur's Munir Shaheed and Hyderabad's Qureshi FC will play Quetta's Baloch FC in Group-A. Dera Ismail Khan's Dera XI will lock horn with three first timers Sahiwal's Young Blood, Quetta's Afghan FC, Lahore's City FC in Group-B while, Karachi Kickers will face easy time against debutant Islamabad's Ravi FC and Abbottabad's Hazara Zamindar FC in Group-C.
PFF League - Tier II competition of PFF - went into movement in 2004, under directives of Faisal Saleh Hayat, in order to supply two teams for ensuing Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) and the honours went into hands of NBP and PPWD in 2004. Midfielder Saeed Qureshi's lone goal gave host Railways 1-0 win over KESC at Railway Stadium, as both teams qualified to top Division from 2005 edition.
PTV annexed the 2006 edition by beating PMC 4-0 at Faisalabad. The 2007 edition was decided after Super-Six with PEL and Pakistan Steel finishing first and second, respectively at Islamabad. The top two teams in 2008 edition were PAF and Nushki's Baloch FC. The Balochistani club not only became the first club ever to win PFF League but they also pocketed first prize of Rs 200,000 as well as honour of becoming fifth team to annex the event.
