Veteran journalist Mazhar Yusuf died here on Thursday morning at his home. He was 84 and had been suffering from Parkinson's disease for a long time. He leaves behind his wife Naeema Sultan Begum, son Nadeem Mazhar and daughter Uzma Mazhar, a journalist.
Mazhar Yusuf started his career just after partition from Sindh Observer. Later he entered business journalism and took out Pakistan Textile Journal and a tourist guide 'This Fortnight in Pakistan'. He also edited the research journal 'Sindhological Studies' for many years.
Mazhar Yusuf was also a writer, columnist and poet. He contributed articles to a number of English and Sindhi newspapers for many years and published a book 'Selected Writings of Mazhar Yusuf'. His favourite topic was history of Sindh and right of Sindh and of the Sindhi people.
He was also the founder-secretary and the moving spirit behind a social welfare organisation, Tanzeem-e-Ahbab-e-Meerut from which he had retired recently due to illness. Quran khwani will be held on Friday after Jumma prayers at D-16, KDA Scheme No 1, Karachi.-PR
