NWFP caretaker Chief Minister Shamsul Mulk has said that the importance of the role of political forces, Pukhtoon Masharan and civil society in supplementing the government efforts for durable peace in the province can not be ignored.
Frontier government has the unconditional and unhindered backing of the federal government for the restoration of peace in Frontier province, he added. He was talking to Saleem Safi, a renowned columnist and other important members of the civil society and political elite at Frontier House Peshawar on Sunday.
"Everybody has an urge and desire for peace in the society and all and sundry will be the direct beneficiaries of peace." He said that we must understand the point that we should work for the collective interest of the society.
He called upon the journalists to rise to the occasion and help the government in tackling this issue on permanent basis. He said that the government has the wherewithal to establish its writ and restore peace. However, for durable peace, the government must have the backing of the political forces, the elders and the civil society. "Collectively we can overcome all over problems," he added. The government was assessing its weaknesses in the system and assured that the government would do whatever was in the interest of the people.
He said that resource crunch can be an excuse in the developmental works but can't be a logical justification for the restoration of peace. He said that it is important to note that in the Pukhtoon society, the Masharan had a dominant role to find out solution to all the problems.
He assured that his government would explore all ways and means for peaceful environment in the province adding that his government would not rest until and unless durable peace is restored in Swat and other troubled parts of the province.
