A visit to the mirror studded Bari Imam's mausoleum, nestled at the foot of Margallah hills of the capital city, inspires pilgrims to undertake spiritual journey within him, said Chaudhry Amir Hussain National Assembly Speaker.
He said this on the eve of the death anniversary observance (Urs) of Shah Abdul Latif Kazmi, the presiding saint of the Potohar region. Amir Hussain said Bari Imam tuned a drove of thieves into honest and clean men when he came to preach here.
He said this illustrated how the holy presence of Bari Sarkar inspired people to goodness and away from evil. A seminar held on Saturday at the Pakistan Academy of Letters remembered the life and noble works of Shah Latif, as well as his spiritual guidance given to the people of his time to seek good life.
Bari Sarkar's Urs begins at Islamabad on Sunday and will last until next Thursday. The shrine was built during Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb's rule. Last year 23 persons were killed in a bomb explosion.
Keeping that in view a lot of precautionary measures have been taken to avoid any untoward happening in the environs of 1,500 yards of the shrine. Over 1,500 security personnel have been deployed, and reserve police and armour carriers, and anti-terrorist cells have been activated to guard the area. Ambulances will also stand to alert at the shrine site.
The traffic police have also chalked a plan for orderly flow of traffic during the five days of the Urs. In addition to spiritual solace that one receives the place also becomes a centre of the embodiment of Potohar culture with sale of local handicrafts, specially, pottery and basketry wares for which Nurpur Shahan (Saidpur) village was once famous.
There is a tingle of sadness recreated by sad mystic and soulful Sufi music in the air. One also comes across hundreds and hundred of pilgrims bringing dallies that is colourful offerings of fruits and sweets colourful wrapped in wicker baskets and artfully executed clay pitchers exquisitely.
