imageKARCAHI: The Sindh High Court on Friday dismissed an application filed by former Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon for an extension in his anticipatory bail in a National Accountability Bureau corruption reference and inquiry.

The court was hearing corruption offences and misuse of authority against Memon worth five billion rupees, filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Court observes that in view of the former ministers conduct, further extension of his transitory bail would amount to abusing the legal process

The court while expressing concerns over the lack of efforts to arrest the former minister retained the earlier verdict declaring him an absconder and reissued the non-bailable arrest warrants, ARY reported.

According to Dawn News, Headed by Justice Syed Mohammad Farooq Shah, a two-judge bench in the order noted that the SHC had already given more than sufficient time to Mr Memon for surrendering before the trial court by extending his protective bail again and again.

Further extension in his bail would amount to abuse the process of court, the bench observed.

The court remarked that the former ministers transitory bail was extended over four times and his surety amount of Rs3 million was also forfeited, yet he failed to turn up.

Last time the former ministers protective bail was extended to Jan 31 on the condition that no further extension would be given in the future, it said.

The PPP leader, who is living in self-exile in Dubai after the law-enforcement agencies launched a crackdown on politicians and bureaucrats for corruption since the last couple of years, submitted that he was booked by NAB in a false corruption reference without issuing him any call up notice when he was out of the country.
