With the completion of work on an alternate bridge at Ran Pathani, the passenger traffic as well as freight wagons is going to start moving to and from Karachi from Saturday (August 19).
Sources in the Pakistan railways told Business Recorder, here on Friday that the bridge at Ran Pathani had washed away during July's torrential rains. The railways had built an alternate bridge to restore the traffic on the track but again during the last week the temporary bridge also washed away in the second spell of heavy rainfall in the area.
The engineers worked devotedly and are going to complete the work on an alternative bridge to restore the traffic on the track to and from Karachi. At present the freight traffic is suspended while the railways have made special arrangements to transport the passengers by road from Hyderabad to and from Karachi, the sources said.
According to analysts, railways had suffered huge financial losses due to suspension of freight service as well as passenger traffic to and from Karachi after collapse of the bridge, which was constructed some 120 years ago. They held railway-planning department responsible for the financial losses because it failed to adopt necessary measures to avert crisis like situation.
