Pakistan is slowly and steadily becoming a powerhouse in combat sports as Muhammad Waseem successfully defended his World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver flyweight champion against Philippines Giemel Magramo on Sunday.
As per media reports, Waseem beat the Philippine boxer by 114 to 112 points in the highly anticipated 12-round bout held in the South Korean capital, Seoul.
It was a tough fight, and I was able to beat (Magramo) after a tense competition, said Muhammad Waseem, reported BBC Urdu. It was learnt the Waseem underwent an exhaustive two-month training to prepare for the fight.
The Pakistani boxer, who is also known as Falcon Khan, has remained unbeaten throughout his career spanning five matches, while his opponent Magramo was playing the 18th match of his career.
Waseem expressed delight on his achievement, but revealed that he sustained injuries during the fight, and would require a much needed rest before preparing for his next encounter.
The talented boxer had won the WBC Silver Flyweight Championship in July 2014, defeating Jether Oliva becoming the first South Asian boxer to win the boxing title.
