imageFAISALABAD: State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali Saturday said that the government was committed to eliminating the menace of load-shedding from the country by 2018.

Speaking at a review meeting at FESCO Headquarters here, the minister said that the government was not only concentrating on electricity production but also focusing on removal of defects and faults in transmission and distribution system by improving their performance.

He said that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is striving hard to make power sector profitable and for the purpose, a vigorous campaign had been initiated against power pilferage.

He directed the FESCO Authority to get power theft cases registered against electricity pilferers under the new ordinance so that power pilferers could be taken to task.

FESCO Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rasheed Aslam briefed the minister, assuring that steps were being taken to construct new grid stations in the region to improve its distribution system. Twenty heavy capacity power transformers would be received in December and overloading at all power transformers in FESCO region would be ended by 2017, he added.

Rs 20 million has been provided to each circle of FESCO for improvement in distribution system and efforts have been accelerated to implement on net metering project, he added.

General Manager Operation FESCO Saleem Bhatti, Chief Engineer Operation Amil Siddiqui, Chief Commercial Officer Sardar Masood Iqbal, Director General Admin Ehsan Siddiqui and others were also present on the occasion.
