Dry fruits prices go up

imageMULTAN: With the dipping of temperatures, the sale of dry fruits has increased despite a remarkable increase in their rates, particularly the most demanded almonds and peanuts.

Dry fruits include walnuts, cashews, almond, peanuts, pistachios and many more. According to a survey conducted by APP here on Saturday, peanut is available for Rs 200 per kilogram, which was Rs 160 in the last season. Prices of pistachio have also increased from Rs 1,100 to Rs 1,300 per kg and the old pistachio was being sold for Rs 1,450 per kg.

The increase in price of almonds (kaghzi) thin shell was noticed which was being sold for Rs 800 per kg in the whole sale market against Rs 650 per kg in the last season. Similarly, rate of high quality American almonds (gree) without shell also registered an increase of about Rs 300 per kilogram which is available for Rs 1,300 per kg, against Rs 1,000 in the last winter season.

The prices of Chilghoza have also increased to Rs 2,600 per kg from Rs 1,600 per kg, the black gram was available for Rs 200 per kg, walnuts for Rs 600, while prices of dry apricot have risen from Rs 700 to Rs 900 per kg, cashew for Rs 1,300 per kg and dry dates were available for Rs 200 in the wholesale market.

People have demanded the city district administration for fixing rates of dry fruits. With the advent of winter season, they said that vendors had started overcharging buyers.
