WASHINGTON: Former caretaker Prime Minister Moeen Qureshi passed away on Wednesday after a prolonged illness in Washington, he was 86.
He was born on June 26th, 1930 in Lahore. Qureshi studied M.A in Economics from Punjab University and gained PhD in Economics in 1955 from Indiana University of the States.
In 1955, he returned to Pakistan and joined the country's civil service and initially posted at the Planning Commission. In 1956, he resigned from the Planning Commission and went to the United States to join the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In 1960, he was deputed as Economic Advisor in Ghana. From 1974-77, he served IMF as its Executive Vice President.
He joined World Bank as Senior Vice President in 1987, after quitting his job in 1991; he settled in the US permanently and established his own firm.
Moeen Qureshi has two daughters and two sons. He was 86 and his funeral prayer will be offered in Maryland, United States.
