The Government of Pakistan has re-appointed Syed Ali Raza as President of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) for a further period of three years.
Syed Ali Raza assumed charge of the President & Chairman of NBP in July 2000. Since then a continuous process of reorganisation, modernisation and portfolio diversification has virtually turned around the bank and has given it the number one position in banking industry. NBP has made record profits in all subsequent years and has introduced a wide range of products and high value financial solutions for its customers.
The visionary contribution of Syed Ali Raza has been recognised both at home and abroad. Syed Ali Raza, was conferred Sitara-i-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf on August 14, 2005.
A reputable journal "Business Week" of "The McGraw Hill Companies" in its July 11, 2005 edition adjudged Syed Ali Raza as one of the 25 Leaders of Asia at the Forefront of Change and has identified them as Stars of Asia, including the President of Indonesia. The Institute of Bankers Pakistan also recognised the capabilities of Syed Ali Raza by awarding him a Gold Medal. Under Syed Ali Raza's dynamic leadership, NBP has won many laurels and awards. NBP is the recipient of the prestigious "Bank of the Year" award given by The Banker, London of Financial Times Group, four times in the last five years (2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005). World's leading financial journals, "Global Finance" after a world-wide survey declared NBP as "one of the best banks in the emerging markets". "Banker Magazine" recognised NBP as "the bank with the highest return on capital in Asia and Number-8 in the world".
The "Global Finance" has also declared NBP as "The Best Foreign Exchange Bank" in Pakistan. "Euromoney" magazine, a leading and prestigious journal, published from London, UK, published Moody's Investors Service rankings, in which NBP is the only Pakistani bank which has been ranked among the "Top 100 banks of Asia" for its. The "Bankers Magazine" in July 2005 recognised NBP as the "10th Best Bank in terms of 'Profit on Capital' in the world". The Asian Banker, a reputable financial journal, has published the report of its research project on the ranking of 300 of Asia's Strongest Banks based on a 11-Dimentional Dynamic Scoring Criteria has adjudged NBP as the Strongest Bank in Pakistan.-PR
