imageLAHORE: As many as 1500 passengers enjoyed the facility of E-tickets of the trains running between Lahore-Rawalpindi section during first 15 days of inauguration of this service.

Talking to APP, Director Information Technology, Fahad Rizwan said that the number of passengers who enjoyed the facility is low but the management was making extra efforts to get other trains also on e-ticketing, saying after that the number those seeking E-tickets would be rise.

He said that Pakistan Railways was also fully committed to provide this facility to passengers at their doorsteps and awareness campaign was also being carried out at reservation offices and through media.

Director IT said "Pakistan Railways and United Bank Limited (UBL) had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU)

to issue E-tickets to passengers two months ago and the project has now been completed within its time".

He said passengers were booking their tickets though Internet and mobile phones. The charges for the tickets could be paid through credit cards, debit cards, mobile banking accounts and UBL Omni, he explained.

The passengers would receive a confirmation SMS after booking ticket and paying its charges and the same SMS-cum- ticket would comprise the detail of tickets including the ticket number, coach number, seat number, identity card number of the passenger, date and time of travel, he added.

Fahad said that passengers would not be required to have any manual receipt or ticket after going through the E- ticketing process.

The confirmation message would be considered the train ticket.

"E-ticketing will help end black marketing of tickets and passengers could save their precious time and avoid queues just by spending small extra charges", he added.

He said that Pakistan Railways had only 45 reservation offices across the country, but now, he added that passengers could get this facility on more than 45,000 UBL Omni branches.
