Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Saturday asked the Supreme Court employees to work with impeccable honesty and warned them of any involvement in corruption.
Honesty and discipline is essential to enhance the prestige of judiciary, he said in his first address to officers and staff after assuming the top judicial post recently. He said severe action would be taken if any one found involved in corrupt practice.
The Chief Justice stressed he wants "zero corruption" in the institution and said that could be done with the co-operation of the employees.
"I will feel embarrassed if I hear about any wrongdoing by any employee," he said adding diligence and honesty would bring real satisfaction to the employees and strengthen image of the highest judicial forum.
"If you (employees) will work as an honest force I will be your elder brother and treat you as younger brothers.
"Otherwise be ready to face the repercussions," the Chief Justice said. He assured the employees they would get all possible relief according to law and rules of the Supreme Court.
The Chief Justice also held out assurance that all promotions and postings would be made strictly on merit.
"I will protect your rights sincerely and honestly."
All cases pending before this court have been computerised and priorities were being fixed to reduce pendency which was around 30,000, he said.
Heads of all branches and sections have been instructed to streamline working of their departments, he said.
To avoid any unnecessary interference from outside, private guests of employees will not be allowed during office time, he said.
Supreme Court Registrar Dr Faqir Hussain assured employees of all possible co-operation by his office for improving efficiency of administration and judicial sections.
