While urging the masses to extend full support to President General Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan Muslim League (PML) Senior Vice President Kabir Ali Wasti said on Saturday that he (Musharraf) was capable to lead the nation in right direction in the prevailing global conditions.
Wasti said despite the fact that Pakistan was playing a very positive role in international politics under the dynamic leadership of President Musharraf, some Western media organisations were busy in anti-Pakistan propaganda.
Historic facts stand testimony that Western nations, particularly the United States, are responsible for the flourishing of extremist tendencies in Pakistan.
Explaining he said, it was during the Soviet-Afghan war that religious fanatics from all across the world were assembled in the region under the direct support of the US.
After accomplishing its objectives, the US pulled out from the region leaving behind a destroyed Afghanistan and a huge burden of refugees including also the extremists, he said.
It should have been the joint responsibility of the US and Pakistan and even of the United Nations to normalise the situation in the aftermath, he said, adding unfortunately Pakistan was left alone to deal with the circumstances.
He said the government of Pakistan was taking stern action against the extremists but it had no magic wand for an overnight redressal of the menace.
It was the responsibility of Western nations as well as their media organisations to help assist the efforts being made by the government of Pakistan rather than resorting to baseless propaganda, he said.
He said Pakistan had rendered great sacrifices in international anti-terrorism war, which were rarely been mentioned by the Western media.
It was a regrettable attitude, which could further aggravate situation, the PML SVP observed.
