Local production of latest dies and moulds can help accelerate the process of technology up-gradation in Pakistan's industrial sector, said technology expert of Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro) Minoru Ohira.
Speaking at a meeting on' Dies and Moulds Sector in Pakistan' here on Saturday, Ohira said strengthening of domestic dies-making sector could lead to saving of millions of dollars every year which Pakistan was presently spending in the form of import bill.
He said mould making for plastic injection was not something new in Pakistan and added that Pakistan Industrial Technical Assistance Centre (Pitac), Lahore and Pak-Swiss Precision Mechanics Training Institute Karachi had already been engaged in mould-making development activities.
Ohira said that even some companies were producing modern molds. However, he said there was need for building capacity among the companies for the production of modern dies so that localisation of automotive parts could be expedited in Pakistan. He said vendors had now started setting up big press-machines, making the availability of big dies an important factor.
He said Technology Upgradation and Skill Development Company (Tusdeq) should invest in big die making facility that was not possible for a private company. He also suggested a study on the existing work especially on press die making, both in Pakistan and the technologically advanced countries.
Earlier, Tusdeq Chairman Almas Hyder apprised the Japanese technology expert on the efforts of the company for the promotion of dies and moulds sector in Pakistan.
