Taking serious exception of the Hasba bill moved in the NWFP provincial assembly by the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) government, Secretary General Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), Syed Iqbal Haider termed it as "contrary to all human and civilised norms."
"The bill is violative of the Constitution and Islamic injunctions as Islam does not provide for anybody to exercise unlimited power to enforce his will on people," Iqbal Haider said.
Hisba bill was moved to the NWFP assembly on Monday by the MMA government in the province despite all opposition by major political parties, human rights organisations and minorities.
"This bill deserves all condemnation and opposition politically, socially, morally, constitutionally and politically," the HRCP Secretary General said.
Haider said in the present global scenario Pakistan cannot afford to have such law and invite international criticism.
"This bill is also unheard of in the entire Muslim World as none of the 57 Muslim states adopted such norms and practices elaborated in this bill," he added.
He called upon the federal government to exercise its constitutional powers to prevent MMA from indulging in such an unconstitutional exercise of enforcing this law.
