The Customs laboratories have started checking of over 100,000 bottles of confiscated liquor to ascertain whether it is fit for human consumption or not. Official sources told Business Recorder on Monday that the exercise is a part of CBR's plan to sell the confiscated liquor to diplomatic missions of non-Islamic countries, instead of destroying it.
The CBR has issued instructions to all collectors of customs to submit the updated position of liquor stock. Moreover, samples of the confiscated liquor should be sent to the customs laboratories for checking its quality and fitness for human consumption, the instruction said.
The CBR has recently filed a reference to seek permission from the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) for selling the confiscated liquor to the embassies of non-Muslim countries. The CII had turned down the previous reference of the CBR. However, the tax authorities have agreed to file another reference keeping in view the huge quantity of liquor.
The CBR wants to complete its homework regarding exact collectorate-wise status of the confiscated liquor, officials added.
