One of the best performance of Azhar Ali, as he made his tenth century of his test career which kept England under pressure before he was out to the last ball of the second day in the third Test at Edgbaston on Thursday.
The 31 year old Azhar Ali celebrated his century with push-ups, for giving a tribute to the Pakistan Army staff who helped the squad get fit during a pre-tour 'boot camp'.
Beside it, opener Sami Aslam, lived up his expectations, by completing his partnership with Azhar, who made 82, he put on 181 for the second wicket, after Pakistan lost Mohammad Hafeez without a run on the board. The well-organised opener played with a maturity belying his years in both attack and defense.
They were on 154 for one, with Aslam 69 not out and Azhar unbeaten on 72, both batsmen drove Moeen Ali, who posed few problems in 15 wicketless overs that cost 63 runs, for a straight six but one of the a self-inflicted wound saw Aslam run out. Younis Khan was still at the crease of 21 not out, having helped Azhar include 76 for the third wicket.
Pakistan had also seen Sohail Khan, who took five wickets on first day, one of their two changes from the side beaten by 330 keeps running in the second Test at Old Trafford as England leveled the four-match arrangement at 1-1, take a Test-best five for 96 on Wednesday. He justified both his inclusion, and Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq's decided to handle first, by taking a Test-best five for 96.
On the other hand that was England's extreme day in the field was made tough when James Anderson as he was twice cautioned authoritatively in one over by Australian umpire Bruce Oxenford for running on the pitch.
In short the game end on the following scores; Pakistan 257 for 3 (Azhar Ali made 139, Sami Aslam scored 82; James Anderson 1-22).
