A bench of Federal Services Tribunal (FST) headed by its Chairman Justice Amanullah Abbasi (Retd) and Rashid Mirza (member) on Wednesday admitted an appeal filed by Nasim Arif Abbasi and 34 other employees of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), and issued notice to the bank for March 3.
Advocate Islam Hussain, appearing for the appellants, said that his clients opted for the Golden Handshake Scheme and their request was granted with effect from 1997. However, they were not relieved of their duties, but asked to continue. As such they served the bank till 1999, but ad hoc relief and other benefits, allowed and paid to other employees, were not given to them, he added.
The counsel for petitioner raising ground of discrimination relied on a judgement of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in Employees versus State Bank of Pakistan. It was argued that petitioners are entitled to the same pecuniary benefits as other employees during the period in question.
The bench after hearing initial arguments admitted the appeal for hearing and issued notice to the NBP for March 3, 2005.
