Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that the government is responsible for maintaining law and order and providing security to the people for which its tools should be used by the administration effectively. The chief minister was addressing police officials at the cash award presentation ceremony held at the Chief Minister House here on Wednesday in recognition of their efforts in controlling crime, detecting crime, arresting hardened criminals and maintaining high standards of services.
He said that the police should continue to control crime at the grassroots level. They should not only register a crime, but also make efforts to identify the criminals and arrest them. "They should be crushed mercilessly," he added.
He said that the government would co-operate and protect honest and hard working police officials because they were the people who mattered. "Earlier, an SHO would take it as his insult if a crime has taken place in his jurisdiction. The situation has changed now."
Arbab said that the police and other law-enforcement personnel had improved their working and had improved the situation to a satisfactory level, but a lot was yet to be done.
He said that the police was encountering dacoits and other criminals at various places in Sindh and laying their lives as well to protect the lives of the common man to which people appreciate.
The chief minister said that the government would continue its policy of appreciating good work and acknowledging outstanding performance of the police.
He said that the families of police officials who had lost their lives in Dadu in an encounter with criminals had been duly compensated with cash assistance and allotment of agriculture lands. Expenses of their children's education were also the responsibility of the government.
Sindh Police Chief Syed Kamal Shah gave a brief resume of the police activities with reference to their progress in arresting kidnappers for ransom, dacoits and robbers. Sindh Chief Secretary Aslam Sanjrani along with other secretaries of relevant departments were also present on the occasion.
The chief minister gave Rs 50,000 to DSP Mohammed Hameed, Rs 50,000 to Inspector Ameer, Rs 40,000 to Inspector Chaudhry Azam Hussein, Rs 30,000 to Inspector Atiqur Rehman, Rs 50,000 to ASI Tahir Naseer Malik, Rs 30,000 to ASI Baseeruddin, Rs 25,000 to Constable Muhammad Akhtar and Rs 50,000 to Constable Saba Sadiq. These officers would be given commendation certificates as well.
