Ukraine's wheat imports fall

Ukraine, which faces a shortage of wheat in the 2003/04 July-June season after a poor grain crop in 2003, cut wheat imports to 23,500 tonnes in April from 170,200 tonnes in March, local analysts said on Friday.
ProAgro agriculture constancy said in a statement a fall in domestic prices and large wheat imports in the first months of the season were the main reasons for the smaller imports.
ProAgro said in April Ukraine bought 22,700 tonnes of wheat from Kazakhstan at $205.33 per tonne DAF Ukrainian border. In March Ukraine bought more than 100,000 tonnes of Kazakh wheat at $191.53.
Analysts said Ukraine had imported 570,200 tonnes of wheat between January and April, including 359,900 tonnes of Kazakh and 175,000 tonnes of Russian wheat.
