The Capital Development Authority (CDA) pilot project envisaging installation of close-circuit video cameras at various public places in Islamabad is in doldrums.
The installation of these cameras was to be completed during the current fiscal with an estimated cost of Rs 3.3 million, sources told Business Recorder.
It is expected that CDA might get allocation for the project in next budget, sources added.
The decision regarding installation of close-circuit cameras was taken under a new security plan to regulate traffic and to keep a strict vigil on security apparatus in Islamabad, sources added.
These cameras will be installed at weekly bazars, prominent buildings, Blue Area, Super Market, Jinnah Super, Aabpara, Zero Point, Faizabad etc.
Sources said the CDA has invited the interested parties to submit their applications for the project adding that a central control room would be established at Rescue-15 to monitor the system. The banks and other financial institutions had already been asked by the ICT administration to install close circuit cameras to avert any untoward incident.
The Capital administration would also install explosive device/material detectors at all entry points of Islamabad to avert any possibility of a terrorist attack.
The official said that directives had also been issued for installation of cameras at all churches in the city. Sources informed this correspondent that the plan has been finalised to utilise services of the private security agencies in Islamabad to perform guard duties at sensitive places including mosques, churches and Imambargahs.
