WELLINGTON: The New Zealand dollar fell below $0.7500 to a six month low on Tuesday as investors shunned risk amid fears that Greece will default on its debts.
The kiwi briefly touched a low of $0.7499, its lowest level since March 29.
As a high yield, commodity currency, the kiwi is often taken as a proxy to risk appetite, like the neighbouring Aussie dollar .
So far this year the kiwi has fallen around 2.7 percent, having ranged between a low of $0.7125 and a 30 year high of $0.8842.
