Punjab government is actively considering a proposal to set up Textile City near Sahianwala Interchange, Chak Jhumra, while a Garment City would also be established over 181 acres of land already allocated for export processing zone near Khurrianwala.
Addressing the members of Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI), Fayyaz Bashir, Provincial Secretary for Industries, Commerce and Investment said that government would provide land while federal government will bear the expenditure for the development and construction of garment city.
"Foreign experts would be hired to provide training for stitching etc in addition to inviting fashion designers of international repute" he said and added that garment city would not only provide jobs but also help exporters to compete in the international markets.
He disclosed that Punjab government contemplating to install five common water treatment plants in the industrial belt of Khurrianwala area.
Initially federal and provincial governments will bear its expenditures, which would be recovered in easily installments within next eight years, he added.
Tariq Shafi Chak Managing Director Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC), Tariq Mehmood Director Estate Development and Works PSIC also addressed the meeting.
Earlier Mian Aftab Ahmed President FCCI in his address of welcome explained the problems being confronted by the local industrialists.
