Weary of the frequent use of cellular phones, the National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain on Monday sought the Information Technology and Telecommunications' Minister's help on how to check this practice.
The chair's repeated rulings from time to time that mobile phones should not be used during the proceedings have fallen on deaf ears and members violate this ruling though some time hiding behind the desks.
"Is there any way or device to seize mobile functioning in the House," he asked the Minister Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari.
The minister promptly replied that he would request the ministry to look into it, adding mobile functioning could be halted while members were in the House.
Furthermore, according to the rules reading newspaper and clapping is also not allowed in the House or in the galleries, but violations often do take place.
It appears that after more than a year of desk thumping and slogan chanting, violation of the rules has become part of the mayhem.
Earlier, PML (N) MNA Abid Sher Ali narrated a heart-rending story about how late at night during the Holy Ramazan his house was raided.
"The police misbehaved with my 'Aitekaf' observing mother and rounded up my spouse, sister-in-law and other family members in a room for several hours," the PML firebrand MNA alleged.
He complained in privilege motion that he was taken in a roofless vehicle in freezing temperatures to Multan Jail from Faisalabad in over 22 hours and kept in a roofless cell, meant for mentally retarded people.
"Under which law, this treatment was meted out to the female family members and my ailing father?" he inquired and said after such a treatment accorded to parliamentarians, is there any use of the Parliament.
The Interior Minister, Faisal Saleh Hayat, assured the lawmaker that they would hold a meeting to look into the allegations.
