The Terminal Association of Pakistan (TAP) has asked the law enforcement agencies to increase security in the terminal area and ensure that the owners of oil tankers do not create law and order situation.
According to TAP spokesman on Wednesday, major molasses, alcohol exporting terminals near the oil pier of Karachi port, Keamari were attacked and ransacked by the two splinter groups of oil tankers owners association without reasons and the on-duty staff were also beaten.
The area remains very insecure due to the infighting of various groups for power control of the association.
The tank terminals of oil were exporting molasses, alcohol and also provide logistic storage services for imported edible oils and chemicals, etc.
The association members export about 1.5 tonnes of molasses and above 50,000 tonnes of alcohol from these terminals and earn valuable foreign exchange for the county.
The association's members have made several attempts to bring sanity, but various splinter groups of the oil tankers owners association are not co-operating at all.
These tank lorries are providing transportation of exportable molasses, alcohol and imported edible oils.
These owners groups not only create harassment, but on and often attack the tank terminals and their staff for their vested interests, the spokesman alleged.
The spokesman further said that it seems that there is no effective control of law enforcing agencies stationed in the area, which is the hub of trade and business activities. The area also operates imported POL products.
At present, the area is so vulnerable that it needs attention of high-ups to avoid any major catastrophe and the entry as well as exit of unauthorised persons should be restricted at the terminal at Keamari.
