ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notices to respondents in a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Bashir Khan against rejection of his appeal by the Election Tribunal in NA-34 Lower Dir election.
The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali heard the case.
It may be mentioned that in 2013 general election Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Sahibzada Umar Yaqoob got 46,668 votes and won the election.
Bashir Khan, however challenged his victory before an Election Tribunal alleging that his opponent candidate had barred women to cast votes in the constituency. He also levlled rigging allegations.
The tribunal dismissed Bashir Khan's petition. The Supreme Court accepted Bashir Khan's appeal for hearing and adjourned the case till first week of July.
