KARACHI: The price of locally produced liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been slashed by Rs4,500 to Rs81,000 per ton as Saudi Aramco contract price (CP) for October slashed by $51.50 to $791 per ton.
Acting chairman of All Pakistan LPG Distributors Association Mohammad Ali Haider said here on Wednesday that international prices of LPG are falling.
He said that butane price was dropped by $80 to $790 per ton while propane declined by $75 to $735 per ton.
He said the price of LPG has decreased by Rs5 to 100 per kilo while 11.8 kg cylinder dropped by Rs57 to Rs1,170 and 45.4 kg cylinder by Rs230 to Rs4,500.
However, Haider expressed dissatisfaction over this decline and said that this price was still out of reach of general consumer. There is a need to formulate a just price mechanism which is acceptable to every stakeholder, he maintained.
He said LPG sale was still restricted to 60 percent of the total potential market. Due to exorbitant increase in LPG prices, public transport vehicles specially auto rickshaws, delivery vans and pick ups are being converted from LPG to CNG.
Haider pointed out that the average LPG consumption which used to rise to 1,800 tons per day in October in the previous years, has now declined to only 1,400 tons per day due to high prices.
He said local production of LPG is still hovering around 1300 tons per day and Ministry of Petroleum must play its role to increase this production.
