LAHORE: Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz has said that Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif should resign from office in the wake of failure of his government to control dengue virus which has spread as epidemic in the province with the death toll still rising.
Talking to media after visiting dengue patients here at Sir Ganga Ram hospital Friday, Raja Riaz asserted that Punjab Chief Minister should be held responsible for precious lives lost to dengue fever as Punjab administration did not take timely preventive measures.
He cited Prof. Dr Javed Akram's written intimation to the administration to caution against extreme outbreak of dengue,three months back. Criticising the Punjab government, he said it was not delivering at all and added that Punjab is the only "unfortunate" province which has no health minister for the last four years.
He regretted that there was no proper "strategy" to prevent spreading of the deadly disease and the fumigation against dengue monsquitos proved ineffective as the virus spread in the province unchecked.
To a question Raja Riaz asserted,"I have come here only to inquire after the health of dengue patients--not for politicising the issue.
But people in the hospitals are facing immense problems due to lack of facilities and I appeal to the mughal emperors of Punjab to adopt all measures against the deadly disease."
