Hina discusses Pak's ties with FMs of UAE, Singapore & Cuba

hina5_400UNITED NATIONS: Continuing her bilateral contacts, Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar on Thursday met her counterparts from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Singapore and Cuba on the sidelines of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly.

Ms. Khar and UAE's Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed satisfaction at the strong bonds of friendship between the two countries and discussed ways to enhance cooperation especially in the areas of trade and commerce, officials said.

The two sides exchanged views on increasing UAE's investment in Pakistan. They agreed to continue constructive engagement on the issue of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Pakistan and the GCC.

The UAE Foreign Minister expressed sympathy for the victims of recent floods in Pakistan and assured his country's all possible flood relief assistance. With Singapore's K. Shanmugan, she discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries especially in areas of trade and commerce.

The two sides agreed to continue their constructive engagement on the issue of Free Trade Agreement (FTA). They also agreed to enhance interaction at the highest political level and to engage more proactively in all areas of mutual interest.

The Foreign Minister highlighted the sacrifices made by Pakistan in the struggle against extremism and terrorism and stressed the need for a sense of common ownership of these challenges by the international community.

Ms. Khar also conferred with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla. She expressed gratitude for Cuba's valuable assistance to the victims of the 2005 earthquake. She commended the excellent work carried out by the Cuban medical teams in Pakistan in the aftermath of the earthquake which won the hearts and minds of the Pakistani people.

The Cuban Foreign Minister, who personally visited Pakistan,in the aftermath of the 2005 earthquake, shared fond memories of his visit to Pakistan. He said he has great respect for the Pakistani people and their culture.

Both countries reiterated their resolve to strengthen their strong diplomatic ties and cooperation at all international fora, including the United Nations.
