China, Japan to send tents for flood victims: NDMA

ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Thursday said that China and Japan have announced to send tents for flood affectees.

Addressing a joint press conference with renowned Tennis player Asam-ul-Haq, who joined hands with NDMA for helping flood victims, he said Iran and Turkey have also sought details of relief items required for the flood affectees.

Apprising media persons about the relief goods so far distributed among flood affectees, he said, NDMA distributed 1,162,555 ration packs and 230,000 tents besides huge quantity of medicines, blankets, mosquito nets, Hygiene kits, water purifications tablets etc.

He said 8,188,000 people were affected by the recent floods in Sindh while 352 lost their lives. Standing crops on 1.9 million acre land were destroyed and 1,350,000 houses were damaged due to the calamity.

He said that the ration packs containing 18 kg food items and other household goods including water coolers, utensils and clothes were distributed among flood victims.

He also informed the Rehabilitation Department/Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Government of Sindh has so far dispatched 269,032 tents, 1,097,162 family ration packs, 73,648 blankets, 3266 water purification unit, 71 De-watering pumps, 287,489 drinking water, 63,538 mosquito nets and 36,655 rice bags (50 Kg).

He also indicated that it might take two months to recede water from few districts of flood affected areas.

"It would take 15 days to recede water from districts Dadu, Benazirabad and Sanghar while in districts of Tando Muhammad Jan and Mirpur Khas it would take one month", Chairman NDMA said.
