LAHORE: Pakistan coach Waqar Younis on Wednesday hailed his team's winning tour of Zimbabwe -- his last series in the post -- and said he was a "satisfied man" after his stint in charge.
The 39-year-old former fast bowler had announced the Zimbabwe tour will be his last for medical reasons.
Waqar said he was pleased with his period in charge, which started in March last year, despite it being marked by in-fighting between key players and the Pakistan Cricket Board as well as damaging allegations of spot-fixing.
"I am happy and a satisfied man and have learnt a lot during this tenure," he said on the team's return from Zimbabwe where Pakistan completed a clean sweep of wins taking a Test, three one-days and both Twenty20 matches.
Waqar, one of cricket's greatest quick bowlers, took over in March 2010 following Pakistan's disastrous tour of Australia where they lost all three Tests and also got a pasting in the short-form matches.
Waqar said his team had showed all-round capabilities in all three forms of the game.
"I think there is no need to say much as results speak for themselves, we won all the matches on the tour and players did their best and gelled well to give this good performance," said Waqar, who will undergo liver treatment in Australia where his family is based.
Captain Misbah-ul Haq, who took over as captain in all three formats of the game earlier this year, praised the outgoing coach adding he was "on the same frequency" as Waqar.
"He (Waqar) did very well and during his stints we, as a team, progressed well," said Misbah.
"I hope that the experience gained during the tour will serve us well in the coming series against Sri Lanka," said Misbah of Pakistan's next series which will be played in the United Arab Emirates.
Pakistan play three Tests, five one-day and a Twenty20 against Sri Lanka.
