UN launches appeal for Pakistan flood victims
ISLAMABAD: The United Nations Coordinator in Pakistan Timo Pakkala said that the UN has appealed for more than thirty six crore dollars foreign aid for helping flood victims of Pakistan.
Talking to BBC, the UN Coordinator said the appeal is being made for meeting the demands of flood affectees for the coming six months.
The coordinator said that the UN will review its demand after thirty days after assessing the needs on humanitarian grounds.
He said that according to an assessment made so far nearly twenty three districts of Sindh and five districts of Balochistan have been affected by floods.
He said that the appeal will be reviewed after thirty days after assessment of needs on humanitarian grounds in wake of changing situation.
He said that the planning for rehabilitation and reconstruction will also be included in the review. The coordinator said that flood has affected fifty lakh people in Sindh according to available data but number may cross seventy lakh people.
The officials of the United Nations said that about three lakh people are living in more than two thousand relief camps in affected areas of Sindh. An official of the NDMA, Brigadier Sajid Naeem said on the occasion that more than seventy lakh people have been affected by flood in Sindh so far.
