imageGoogle’s, head of search, Amit Singhal a 15-year company veteran steps down and will be replaced by the chief of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

According to Economic Times, the long time chief of Google’s search business will retire. Singhal joined Google in 2000, just two years after Google was launched by Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

During his tenure, Singhal was involved in the development of Adwords, the online advertising service that targets ads based on users' searches and has become the company’s most profitable source of revenue.

"My dream Star Trek computer is becoming a reality, and it is far better than what I ever imagined," Singhal wrote in a Google post.

Singhal’s last day at the office is February 26th; he expressed his gratitude towards the company in the blog. “I love Google....I look back at my time here with a profound sense of gratitude that I was a part of building this”, he said.

Google’s decision to replace Singhal by the AI Chief John Giannandrea, indicates the company's desire to make its search engine more sophisticated said analysts.

Giannandrea, himself a Silicon Valley veteran has been involved in products such as image recognition for Google Photos search, which searches through online images, and the smart reply for Google Inbox that provides automatic reply suggestions for emails.
