imageISLAMABAD: Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) here on Friday said that Poultry industry was in crisis, over production and duties on raw material cause in price hike of poultry products.

It is pertinent to mention that price of live chicken in the retail market has reached Rs. 105 per kilo grame while eggs are beign sold at Rs. 90 per dozen in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

"The weather is expected to get warm and there are high chances that the gap between demand and supply will reduce, resulting in fall of chicken prices in the open market," Sarosh told APP while commenting on the increasing poultry products.

He said the poultry industry suffered a lot during last one and a half years due to over-production, so farmers had to face loss due to which they had closed their farms resulting in shortage of the product.

Chairman PPA said, as farmers are coming back to the industry, the production would increase and problem of demand and supply would be resolved and streamline prices.

Replying to a question on egg prices, Dr. Hassan said that the winter season has prolonged due to recent rains, which resulted in high demand of eggs.

He said that because of market situation, poultry prices varied in the capital city.

Replying to another question, he said that energy crisis in the country also contributed in low production, adding the rise in prices of poultry feeds and medicines also affected chicken rates in last few years.

He said there was need for evolving price control mechanism for poultry products in order to control any undue hike in rates.
