LONDON: UK prompt gas prices jumped on Tuesday as National Grid data showed flows from the Netherlands BBL pipeline down.
Gas prices for day-ahead delivery were up 6.1 percent at 52.00 pence per therm at 1046 GMT. Prices for weekend delivery were up 7.1 percent at 51.40 pence per therm.
A spokesman for BBL said the fall in flows from the pipeline to the UK was due to fewer nominations from shippers.
The fall in flows followed a new cap on Netherlands production from its Groningen gasfield of 16.5 billion cubic metres (bcm) for the first half of the year, announced on Monday, after public concern over earth tremors in the area.
"It's too soon to say whether the fall in BBL flows is due to yesterday's announcement, but we are monitoring the situation closely," Oliver Sanderson, an analyst at Thomson Reuters Point Carbon said.
