BERLIN: German mechanical and eletrical engineering firms aim to create up to 80,000 new jobs by the end of this year, the head of employers' association Gesamtmetall said in an interview released late on Sunday.
"Since April 2010, the turning point after the crisis, 120,000 permanent jobs have been created in our industry. And by the end of the year, another 60,000-80,000 more should be added," Gesamtmetall president Martin Kannegiesser said in an interview for Monday's edition of the newspaper Tagesspiegel.
German unemployment stands at its lowest level since reunification in 1990, and the country's engineering firms have benefited from strong demand in emerging economies.
