MILAN: AC Milan defender Cristian Zapata has been sidelined after suffering a fractured bone in his right foot, the Serie A side have confirmed.
Colombian international Zapata suffered the injury in the final minutes of Milan's 2-1 Italian Cup last 16 win over Sassuolo on Tuesday and is expected to be out for several weeks.
A statement by Milan said: "AC Milan communicates that in the final minutes of Milan-Sassuolo, Cristian Zapata, following a challenge with another player, suffered a bone fracture at the base of the second metatarsal in his right foot."
Milan, who sit eighth in Serie A, 17 points adrift of leaders and champions Juventus, will meet Lazio in the quarter-finals of the Cup later this month.
