LONDON: Prompt natural gas prices in Britain rose on Wednesday on forecasts for colder weather and a slightly undersupplied system.
Prices for within-day delivery were up by 0.9 pence to 53.25 pence per therm at 0930 GMT.
The gas system was 1.2 million cubic metres (mcm) undersupplied, with flows forecast at 233.9 mcm/day and demand at 235.1 mcm, National Grid data showed.
Demand remained well below a seasonal norm of around 285 mcm.
"Langeled flows are down 5 mcm today from 65 mcm/d yesterday due to a decrease in Norwegian production," Thomson Reuters Point Carbon analysts said, referring to Britain's main subsea gas import pipeline.
Day-ahead TTF gas was up 1.02 euros at 22.60 euros per megawatt hour.
Meteorologist forecasts pointed to higher wind power output on Wednesday, helping curb demand for gas, while colder weather was expected next week.
The January 2015 front-month futures contract was up 0.77 pence at 54.00 pence/therm, while the summer 2015 contract was up 0.40 pence at 49.68 pence/therm.
Britain's nuclear fleet was expected to generate more than 8 gigawatts of power versus full capacity of more than 9 GW.
In Europe's carbon market, benchmark EU Allowances (EUA) were up 0.13 euros at 7.47 euros per tonne, trading at highs not seen since November 2012.
