imageKARACHI: Google Inc collaborates with Novartis pharmaceutical to make special contact lenses for diabetic patients. These contact lenses will track blood sugar level through tears fluid and correct a vision in a unique way.

Foreign media reported, “On Monday, the two companies said Novartis's Alcon eye-care division would license and commercialize smart lens technology designed by Google[x], a development team at the search engine giant. Financial details of the partnership weren’t provided”.

These lenses might be helpful for type 1 and type 2 diabetic patients in a way that it will track down the glucose level and manage risk of amputation and blindness.

Google co-founder Sergey Brin reportedly said, “The Company wanted to use the latest technology in ‘miniaturisation’ of electronics in order to improve people’s quality of life”.

According to media, “The lenses contain a tiny sensor that relays data on glucose contained in tears via an equally tiny antenna. In a news release earlier this year, Google described the electronics in the lenses as being ‘so small they look like bits of glitter’ and the antenna is thinner than human hair”.
