PPP emerges victorious in AJK polls; secures 20 seats

electionsMIRPUR: By clinching an unequivocal 49 seats the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) AJK emerged victorious in the AJK Legislative Assembly elections by bagging 20 seats, according to unofficial results declared on Monday.

Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) remained runner-up by securing nine seats, incumbent ruling Muslim Conference secured third position in the elections by winning five seats, independent candidates won two seats while one seat went to the joint candidate of PPP and PML (Q), the official sources told APP here Monday quoting the unofficial results.

Counting of the votes including those landed through postal ballot is underway by the concerned District Returning Officers.

Final official results of the elections would be announced by the AJK Election Commission soon after completion of the ongoing counting of the votes, the AJK Election Commission sources said.

The AJK EC sources, when contacted, told APP that it had yet received preliminary results of 24 out of 37 seats from the concerned District Returning Officers, and according to the results, PPP won 12 seats, PML (N) six, Muslim Conference four and independent candidates two seats.

According to the unofficial results gathered from the District Returning Officers following candidates were emerged winner in the elections.

Akber Ibraheem (Candidate jointly supported by PPP and PML-Q), LA-35 Jammu & others-VI Raja Muhammad Sideeque (PML-N), LA-36 Kashmir Valley-I (election postponed), LA-37 Kashmir Valley-II (election postponed), LA-38 Kashmir Valley-III Syed Shoukat Ali Shah (PML-N), LA-39 Kashmir Valley-IV Syed Azher Gilani (PPP), LA-40 Kashmir Valley-V Abdul Salam Butt (PPP) and LA-41 Kashmir Valley-VI (election postponed).

Elections were postponed in three constituencies including LA-30 (Jammu-I) and LA-36 (Kashmir Valley-I) due to worsening law and order situation in Karachi and in LA-41 (Kashmir Valley-VI) following challenging of the voters list related to Khyber PakhtunKhawa province in the court of law.

Similarly, polling in electoral constituency LA-37 (Kashmir Valley-II) in Lahore was postponed following violent clash between the workers of PPP and PML (N) at the beginning of polling on Sunday morning.
