Weekly inflation goes up by 0.57pc

marketISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on June 23, for the lowest income group up to Rs.3,000, has registered increase of 0.57 per cent over the previous week.

The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 304.49 points as against 302.75 points registered in the previous week, according to Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000-2001=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

The SPI for the combined group registered increase of 0.53 per cent by rising from 291.18 in the previous week to 292.72 in the week under review.

As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 16.24 percent.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups ranging from Rs.3001-5000 and above Rs.12,000 witnessed increase of 0.58 percent and 0.48 percent respectively.

During the week under review average prices of 8 items registered decrease, while that of 21 items increased with the remaining 24 items' prices unchanged.

The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included, egg hen (farm), masoor pulse (washed), bananas, moong pulse (washed), mash pulse (washed), sugar, gur and Vegetable ghee (loose).

The items which registered increase in their prices included, tomatoes, onions, LPG(11 kg cylender), potatoes, gram pulse (washed), chicken (farm), bath soap, cigarettes, washing soap, wheat flour (average quality), mustard oil, shirting, curd, wheat (average quality), rice basmati (broken), milk fresh, garlic, rice IRRI-6, firewood, mutton and lawn.

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included, beef, milk (powdered), bread plain (mid size), vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin), salt powered, red chillies, tea prepared, tea (packet), cooked beef, cooked dal, coarse latha, voil (printed), sandal (gents), sandal (ladies), chappal, electricity bulb (60wats), match box, Kerosene, gas charges (up to 3.3719 MMBTU), electricity charges (1-100 unit), petrol, diesel and telephone local call.
