MIRPUR: At least 22 political parties were contesting the 41-seat AJK Legislative Assembly elections. Major political parties contesting the polls include Pakistan People's Party (PPP), ruling All Jammu Kashmir Muslim Conference, newly-born AJK branch of Pakistan Muslim League (N), J & K Peoples Party, Jammu Kashmir Liberation League, Jamaat-e-Islami and others. MQM has boycotted the elections in all constituencies.
PPP is the only party which fielded its candidates in all 41 constituencies to contest the elections. Similarly Muslim Conference and the PML (N) respectively landed their 35 to 36 candidates in the elections.
